Sandeep SoniAssistant Professor | QTM

Biography

Sandeep Soni completed his PhD in Computer Science at Georgia Institute of Technology (2021). Prior to joining the faculty at Emory in 2023, Sandeep was a postdoctoral scholar at the University of California, Berkeley. Academic and industry collaborations have exposed him to different research styles and perspectives, and taught him the value of diversity of ideas within research. These collaborations have helped form and further his own work, and as faculty, Sandeep aims to foster diverse collaborations for his students.

Education

  • Ph.D., Computer Science, Georgia Institute of Technology, 2021
  • M.S., Computer Science, Georgia Institute of Technology (Machine Learning), 2014
  • B.E., Computer Engineering, Pune Institute of Computer Technology, 2010

Research

Sandeep's research focuses on developing computational methods to measure social and cultural phenomena using text data with applications in computational social science and cultural analytics. This work often involves the use of methods in unsupervised machine learning, natural language processing, and network science. Sandeep's Ph.D. thesis was on using computational methods to model and quantify network influence in the process of language change. His articles have been published in a number of leading conferences and journals including ACL, EMNLP and JCA.
